Responsibilities include assisting with event setup and teardown, guiding guests, monitoring spaces, and following museum policies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3+ years of customer service experience.
  • Able to work a mix of daytime, evenings, and weekends.
  • Able to move materials up to 30 lbs and set up events.
  • Valid US driver’s license.

  • Provide excellent customer service to all event attendees by anticipating guest needs and being knowledgeable about the Museum facility, policies, exhibits, and events.
  • Support the set-up of events including tables and chairs, assisting with decorations and providing entrance into Museum facilities for volunteers and vendors.
  • Maintain a warm, friendly, safe Museum environment while checking in ticketholders, guiding visitors through activities, monitoring exhibits and spaces, and enforcing policies.
  • Support the clean-up of events, including removing trash, resetting exhibits, and breakdown of tables and chairs.
  • Follow Museum procedures for emergencies by assisting the Emergency Coordinator and other staff as directed.
  • Other job-related duties as needed

The Museum of Life and Science is seeking positive and proactive folks to join the Special Events Team. Those in this part-time position provide exemplary customer service to Museum guests and patrons at ticketed and non-ticketed events for both family and adult audiences. This position would be ideal for candidates looking for a secondary source of income.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service to all event attendees by anticipating guest needs and being knowledgeable about the Museum facility, policies, exhibits, and events.
  • Support the set-up of events including but not limited to tables and chairs, assisting with decorations as needed and providing entrance into Museum facilities for volunteers and vendors.
  • Maintain a warm, friendly, safe Museum environment while, checking in ticketholders, guiding visitors through activities, monitoring Museum exhibits and spaces, ensuring that NC ABC Laws, Durham County smoking ordinance, and applicable Museum policies are maintained and enforced.
  • Support the clean-up of events, including but not limited to removing trash and recycling, resetting exhibits, breaking down tables and chairs, ensuring guests and vendors leave the facility as they found it and with all belongings.
  • Follow Museum procedures for emergencies by assisting the Emergency Coordinator and other Museum staff in emergency situations as directed.
  • Other job-related as needed

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 3+ years’ customer service experience
  • Works well independently, with keen observation skills and desire to be proactive about visitor needs and guest environment
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies with provided training
  • Available to work a mix of daytime, evenings, and weekends. Events are on an inconsistent schedule from one per month to many evenings in a row. Shifts range from 2-8 hours.
  • Capable of working outside in changing weather conditions
  • Ability to move materials up to 30 lbs. and assist team with setup and breakdown of events.
  • Ability to travel long distances across campus on varying terrain
  • Able and willing to embrace Museum mission of “sparking curiosity and respect for nature and science”
  • Valid US driver’s license
