Overview

Boyer Children's Clinic is currently seeking a Full-Time Special Educator - TSVI (Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments). The Special Educator - TSVI is responsible for providing specialized services for children from a diverse range of backgrounds age Birth to 3 who are blind, have low vision (BLV), or are at risk for BLV in their homes, in local schools and within the community. The King County B-3 vision program ensures that families of infants/toddlers with identified blindness/visual impairment can access appropriate Early Support Vision services, regardless of where they live in King County. This TSVI position works within a team of TSVIs placed strategically within King County and is based at Boyer Children\'s Clinic.

Responsibilities

• Develop, coordinate, and implement vision services as part of an Early Support (ESIT) team serving King County. Provide home-based or community-based vision services within the child\'s natural environment.
• Provide caregiver and/or provider coaching as a service delivery model. Provide families with information, skills, and support related to enhancing the skill development of infants and toddlers with identified blindness/visual impairment.
• Coordinate enrollment into appropriate community programs, support groups, and other services; coordinate case management meetings with community agencies.
• Provide guidance to county-wide Early Support teams regarding best practices in evaluating birth-to-three-year-olds who are blind/visually impaired.
• Implement early screening for visual impairment including cortical visual impairment with appropriate follow-up services; conduct functional vision assessments of children as appropriate; make recommendations for vision services, including functional activities that address families\' priorities; help monitor children\'s progress; assist with planning children\'s transition to Part B services.
• Collaborate with existing local, regional, and state resources (e.g., Washington State School for the Blind, Washington Sensory Disabilities Services) for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services and make use of distance technologies where feasible to ensure equitable access to Early Support vision services.
• Participate in meetings, workshops, and conferences for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job duties.
• Complete and maintain accurate client records
• Collect and maintain a variety of data for the purpose of monitoring and evaluating program activities and outcomes as requested by King County and Boyer Children\'s Clinic for the purpose of documenting activities, soliciting, and maintaining funding, providing written reference, or conveying information.
• Other duties as assigned.
