SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent for Special Education, the testing teacher consultant will assist in assessing/evaluating studentsforspecialeducation eligibility andassistin determiningwhatissuesareaffectingthestudents’learning.Theteacherconsultant willworkcloselywithlocal district teachers, administrators, and related service staff to developIndividual Education Plans (IEP) forstudentswho qualify for special education. The teacherconsultant fortesting will also assist in identifying academic targets for students and what supportsstudentsneed to besuccessful academically.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Demonstrate an understanding ofcurrent federalandstate laws,and rules regardingchild find,evaluation,eligibility,LeastRestrictiveEnvironment(LRE),IndividualizedEducation Program (IEP) development andimplementation.

  • Demonstrate knowledgeandunderstanding of childgrowth anddevelopment, knowledge ofassessments anddiagnosis andresearchrelated tolearning,instructionalstrategies,and classroommanagement.
  • AssistteamswiththeReviewofExisting EvaluationData(REED)process,including coordination ofmeetings,and by completingstudentrecord reviews.
  • Ability to conduct achievement assessmentsandclassroomobservationsto assist evaluationteams.
  • Abilitytoassist teacherswith implementing strategies tocreatesuccess for students with disabilities.
  • Abilitytomonitor students’ datatodemonstrateacademic and behavioralgrowth.
  • Communicateindividual plans forstudents to staff tofacilitate a whole school approach tostudentimprovement.
  • Workincollaborationwithschooladministrationtoaddresstheneedsofourmostat-risk learners,withthefocuson improvingacademics.
  • Demonstrateenthusiasm andthe interpersonalskills to relatewith students, staff, administration,parents, andthecommunity.
  • Providestaffdevelopment to promote increased competencyandimproved studentoutcomes.
  • Attend required staff meetings and serve, as appropriate,on staff committees, including MTSS teams.
  • Participateinfaculty,school,parent,andcommunitymeetingsandprogramswiththe intent to share availableresources.
  • Assist families with finding necessaryresources.
  • Mustbeorganizedandabletomeettimelinesandmonthlydeadlines.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively orally and inwriting.
  • Demonstratetheabilitytouseelectronic equipmentforword processing,datamanagement, information retrieval, visual and audio presentations,and telecommunications.
  • Otherdutiesassignedbythedirectorand/orsupervisorasdeemednecessaryandappropriate which are in accordance with contractual rules and legalguidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Possess a master’s degree in special education.

PossessavalidMichiganteachingcertificatewithaspecialeducationendorsement.(LD preferred).

Completedaminimumofthreeyearsofsatisfactoryteachingexperience,notlessthantwo years of which shall be in teaching students with a disability in a special education classroom.

EXPERIENCE:

Demonstrated ability working with a wide age range of children and young adults.

Demonstratedinstructionalconsultationskillsincludingoutstandingorganizationand communication.

Evidenceoftheability toworkwith awidevarietyofparents,professionalstaffand non-professionalstaff.

Previous experience in Collaborative EvaluationTeams.
