Job summary

The Lansing School District is seeking a Testing Teacher Consultant to support the special education evaluation process by collaborating with school psychologists and school level teams to complete REEDs, administer achievement assessments, monitor timelines, and communicate with families throughout the process.

The ideal candidate has a Master’s Degree and Michigan approval, with experience in learning disabilities and collaboration with teachers to improve student outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree and prior approval as a Teacher Consultant by the Michigan Department of Education.
  • Provides support to Special Education students.
  • Ability to work with Lead and Classroom Teachers to help with student behaviors and academics.
  • Learning disability and emotional impairment experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of child growth, assessments, and research related to learning and classroom management.
  • Understanding of rules regarding Child Study Teams and special education assessment requirements.
  • Enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate with students, staff, administration, parents and community.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management, information retrieval, presentations, and telecommunications.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees.
  • Participate in faculty, school, parent, and community meetings and programs.
  • Conduct or provide staff development sessions to promote competency and increase participation.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain caseload of at-risk learners to provide support and behavioral interventions leading to academic success.
  • Must be able to meet timelines and monthly deadlines.
  • Assist families with finding necessary resources.
  • Monitor students’ data to demonstrate academic and behavioral growth.
  • Develop and monitor goals for students and the criteria for success.
  • Communicate individual plans for students to staff to facilitate a whole school approach to student improvement.
  • Work in collaboration with school administration to address the needs of our most at-risk learners, with the focus on improving academics.
  • Providing staff with essential information to develop interventions for academics and behavioral success.
  • Identifying and reporting child abuse and neglect.
  • Other duties as assigned

In Pursuit of this mission, we are looking to hire a Testing teacher Consultant.

The Testing Teacher Consultant supports the special education evaluation process by collaborating with school psychologists and school level teams to complete initial and reevaluation REEDs, administer achievement assessments, monitor evaluation and IEP timelines, and communicate with families throughout the process. They help ensure evaluations are thorough, timely, and aligned with patient needs and special education compliance requirements.

  • Demonstrates enthusiasm and the interpersonal skills to relate with students, staff, administration,
    parents, and the community.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management, information
    retrieval, visual and audio presentations, and telecommunications.
  • Attend required staff meetings and serve, as appropriate, on staff committees.
  • Participate in faculty, school, parent, and community meetings and programs with the intent to share
    available resources.
  • Conduct or provide staff development sessions to promote an increased competency and increase
    student participation in academic success.
