Job summary

Ann Arbor Public Schools invites applications for a Teacher Consultant/Resource Room Teacher at Scarlett Middle School in Ann Arbor, MI. This full-time role follows the AA EA salary schedule and reports to the Building Principal.

Qualified candidates will hold a Masters in special education with MI teaching certification and SPED endorsement, plus three years of teaching experience including students with disabilities. SST coordination and FAB/BIP writing are expected.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Successful background and experience working with students with learning disabilities and behavioral challenges.
  • Serve as building contact person for community agencies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues regarding program accommodations.
  • Write and implement a FAB/BIP.
  • Experience working in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Serve in support groups for students.
  • Home and community visits.
  • Coordinate student services for special education including modification/accommodation, planning and oversight.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • This is a full time position, requiring regular reliable and predictable attendance on site.

POSITION TITLE: Teacher Consultant/Resource Room Teacher

POSITION LOCATION: Scarlett Middle School

SALARY: Teacher Salary Schedule (AAEA)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Building Principal

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
  • Possess Masters Degree in special education for Teacher Consultant position.
  • Possess a valid Michigan teaching certificate with an endorsement in special education in one or more areas (EI, LD, and CI.).
  • Possess three years satisfactory teaching experience, including at least two years of teaching students with disabilities in a special education classroom
  • Understanding of SST process and coordination desired
  • Training and instructional experience with state recommended reading and specialized programs desired
  • Successful background and practice "consulting" with colleagues regarding program adaptations and modifications for students desired
  • Successful background and experience working in a culturally diverse environment with ESL students desired
  • Knowledge of/experience with special education due process procedures, writing of individual education plans and data collection desired
  • Must submit evidence at time of interview of highly qualified status as defined through NCLB
  • State Board of Education approval as a teacher consultant or able to qualify
  • Proof of COVID vaccination required
