Welcome to Pathways Strategic Teaching Center, J. Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center

Pathways Strategic Teaching Center is a year-round comprehensive education and treatment program servicing children with autism and other related disorders. Founded in 1998 through a collaborative effort between the J. Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center and local parents of children with autism, Pathways is committed to utilizing scientifically validated teaching strategies in improving the lives of children with autism and other related developmental disorders and their families. Pathways education and treatment strategies are based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. Individually tailored curricula address speech and language, pre-academic and academic skills, daily living and self-care skills, play and social skills, and assessment and treatment of challenging behavior. A one-to-one ratio of behavior technicians trained in Applied Behavior Analysis is typically utilized, although small and large group instruction may be used with students who achieve the skills to learn in such settings. A comprehension system of student evaluation allows for daily refinement of student's programs. Behavior Analysts train, supervise, and collaborate with Special Education Teachers, Behavior Technicians, related service professionals, and community based treatment staff in implementation of behavior analytic teaching methodologies. Individual student curriculum and programs are designed to treat problem behavior and teach socially appropriate skills. Relevant measurement systems are used ongoing to assess student progress. Pathways provides the opportunity to conduct research projects and works closely with local Universities and Colleges. Parent trainings are provided as well as consultation services to public school districts throughout Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.
