Job summary

Behavioral Health's BHA Academy seeks a certified Special Education Teacher to lead in a highly specialized classroom. You will design individualized instruction, support students with intensive needs, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to implement IEPs and safety plans.

You will work under an interdisciplinary team to promote academic, social, emotional, and functional growth, ensuring consistent, trauma-informed practice and strong family partnerships.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Current Missouri licensure or certification as a Special Education Teacher; endorsement in Autism or Behavioral Disabilities preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of experience with significant developmental disabilities, autism, or intensive support needs.
• Experience in school-based special education, especially high-support or self-contained classrooms.
• Experience developing and implementing IEPs and providing individualized instruction.
• Experience working with students with significant communication, adaptive, behavioral, or sensory needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide trauma-informed instruction and build strong relationships with students and families.
• Create structured, predictable classrooms with routines and supports.
• Coach paraprofessionals to implement instructional and behavioral supports with fidelity.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional standards; complete required documentation.
• Lead IEP meetings, parent conferences, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
• Implement and monitor behavior supports and FBA/BIP processes as needed.
• Foster student progress toward academic and functional goals.
• Advocate for student needs and collaborate with families and districts.
• Perform other duties and participate in training and on-call rotations.
