Job summary

Seattle Public Schools seeks a Special Education Classroom Teacher to support students with diverse needs in a structured urban setting. You will implement individualized instruction, adapt lesson plans, and monitor progress within the IEP framework, under the supervision of the building principal.

You will collaborate with families, specialists, and staff, attend required meetings, and participate in professional development to maintain compliance with state and district guidelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and academic preparation for teaching diverse students.
• Experience or preparation for teaching in an urban, culturally diverse population.
• Experience adapting instruction for students with varying needs in special education.

Responsibilities

• Foster an environment conducive to learning and maturation; plan instruction and prepare lesson plans for individual students.
• Use appropriate instructional methods aligned to program objectives; attend in-service training for growth.
• Establish classroom policies; guide and discipline students to meet achievement standards.
• Communicate with students, parents, and staff; maintain open relationships to support student achievement.
• Set goals and evaluate progress; prepare reports for parents/guardians; manage IEPs where applicable.
• Direct non-certificated staff; attend to students' physical, emotional, medical, or hygienic needs as appropriate.
• Collect and interpret data; implement and evaluate IEPs; amend documents as needed.
• Attend required staff meetings and activities to meet position objectives.
