Overview

BASIS DC is seeking qualified candidates for a Middle School Special Education Teacher for the 2025/2026 school year!

The role involves working directly with students to identify and fulfill educational services and supports as part of their Individualized Education Program (IEP). The teacher participates in IEP meetings and supports general education teachers regarding classroom interventions, accommodations, modifications, and special education requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card and/or satisfactory applicable state background check, current special education certificate valid in relevant jurisdiction, CPR and First Aid.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in special education; Master’s degree preferred.
• 1+ year(s) of special education experience.
• Certifications: CPI or TACT-2.

Primary Responsibilities

• Work with students with disabilities in small group or 1:1 settings.
• Implement IEP requirements, including service minutes and supports.
• Provide instructional interventions and academic support.
• Manage cases, coordinate IEP meetings, communicate with parents, and ensure compliance.
• Facilitate and oversee evaluation processes.
• Collaborate with general education teachers to implement IEPs for FAPE.
• Maintain documentation and student records confidentially.
• Supervise related service providers and coordinate services.
• Develop understanding of general education curriculum for adapted instruction.
• Possibly perform CPI or TACT-2 certified restraint or seclusion as needed.
• Communicate regularly with service providers and oversee day-to-day tasks of support staff.
• Proctor assessments and perform other duties as assigned.
