Special Education Teacher - Middle School

BASIS DC is seeking qualified candidates for a Middle School Special Education Teacher for the 2025/2026 school year!

The role of the Special Education Teacher is to work directly with students to identify and fulfill needed educational services and supports as part of a student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). The teacher participates in IEP meetings and supports general education teachers regarding classroom interventions, student accommodations, modifications, and special education requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card and/or satisfactory applicable state background check, current special education certificate valid in relevant jurisdiction, CPR and First Aid.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in special education; Master’s degree preferred.
• 1+ year(s) of special education experience.
• Certifications: CPI or TACT-2.

Primary Job Responsibilities

• Work with students with disabilities in small group or 1:1 settings.
• Implement IEP requirements through direct interaction and specially designed instruction.
• Coordinate and facilitate evaluation and reevaluation processes, including MET meetings and documentation.
• Collaborate with general education teachers to implement IEPs ensuring FAPE.
• Maintain confidentiality and accurate documentation of student records and progress.
• Supervise itinerant service providers and coordinate schedules and meetings.
• Develop understanding of general education curriculum to adapt content for students with disabilities.
• Perform CPI or TACT-2 certified restraint or seclusion as needed.
• Coordinate with related service providers for student services and meetings.
• Oversee day-to-day tasks of assistants and specialists.
• Proctor assessments for state and district testing.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
