Job summary

Memphis-Shelby County Schools seeks an educator for the Fall Break Learning Academy to provide professional instruction across grades and subjects, supporting academic, social, physical, and skill development to prepare students for the 21st century.

The role includes planning lessons, assessing progress, and communicating with parents and administrators. Must hold a Tennessee educator license with endorsement for the taught grade/subject.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education with Tennessee certification required.
• Endorsement in the grade/subject taught as specified by state regulations.

Responsibilities

• Creates a fall school instructional environment conducive to learning and develops materials for classes.
• Establishes classroom behavior standards and maintains classroom management.
• Assesses student progress and provides written/oral reports to parents and school administrators.
• Plans fall school curriculum and prepares lessons to meet student needs per state requirements.
• Conferences with parents and staff to develop educational programs for students.
• Instructs students using strategies to support motor, cognitive, language, and social development.
• Motivates students and provides ongoing feedback and assessments of learning.
• Maintains records as required by policy and law.
• Supports administration in implementing school policies and activities.
• Sponsors student activities and tutors students as needed.

Job description

This position is responsible for professional instructions during fall school designed to provide academic, social, physical, and skills development for students in specific grades/subject areas to prepare them to be successful citizens and workers in the 21st century.

• Creates a fall school educational environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and needs of the students; prepares instructional materials for classes assigned and provides written evidence of preparation to Site Administrator - Fall School upon request.
• Establishes a standard of classroom behavior; maintains classroom management inside and outside of the school.
• Assesses the accomplishments of students on an established timetable, and provides written and oral progress reports to parents/guardians, Site Administrator - Fall School and selected staff. Administers tests and assessments.
• Plans fall school curriculum and prepares lessons and other instructional materials to meet individual needs of students within state and fall school requirements based on the educational, physical, and emotional levels of student development.
• Confers with parents and appropriate resource staff to develop educational programs for students.
• Creates learning materials geared to students’ abilities and interests.
• Instructs students by using educational strategies and techniques to improve sensory, motor and perceptual-motor development, perception, memory, language, communication skills, cognition, social, and emotional development.
• Motivates students and provides consistent reinforcement of learning skills, and provides continuous assessment and feedback to students for all learning activities.
• Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district and fall school regulations.
• Assists administration in implementing all policies and rules governing fall school student activities and conduct.
• Sponsors student activities/clubs/teams/organization and tutors students as requested.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and an endorsement in the grade/subject taught with a valid Tennessee certificate. Governed by the Rules and Regulations of the Tennessee Code Annotated and the collective bargaining agreement.

The following special conditions are required Commitment for the entire period of fall school. May involve missing some district training opportunities. Attendance at ALL preparatory planning sessions and periodic administrative meetings. Availability prior to the end of the regular school assignment contract to participate in fall school setup and preparation. Availability for fall school closeout operations which may occur after the new academic year contract has started.
