Job summary

Shelby County Schools in Tennessee is seeking a teacher for the Fall Break Learning Academy. The role provides professional instruction designed to support academic, social, physical and skills development for students in specified grades.

You will create engaging learning environments, plan lessons, assess progress, and collaborate with parents and staff. Commitment is for the entire fall period, with planning sessions and possible setup and closeout activities.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and an endorsement in the grade/subject taught with a valid Tennessee certificate.
  • Commitment for the entire period of fall school and attendance at preparatory planning sessions.
  • Availability prior to the end of the regular school assignment to participate in fall school setup and preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Creates a fall school educational environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and needs of the students; prepares instructional materials for classes assigned and provides written evidence of preparation to Site Administrator – Fall School upon request.
  • Establishes a standard of classroom behavior; maintains classroom management inside and outside of the school.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on an established timetable, and provides written and oral progress reports to parents/guardians, Site Administrator – Fall School and selected staff. Administers tests and assessments.
  • Plans fall school curriculum and prepares lessons and other instructional materials to meet individual needs of students within state and fall school requirements based on the educational, physical, and emotional levels of student development.
  • Confers with parents and appropriate resource staff to develop educational programs for students.
  • Creates learning materials geared to students’ abilities and interests.
  • Instructs students by using educational strategies and techniques to improve sensory, motor and perceptual-motor development, perception, memory, language, communication skills, cognition, social, and emotional development.
  • Motivates students and provides consistent reinforcement of learning skills, and provides continuous assessment and feedback to students for all learning activities.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district and fall school regulations.
  • Assists administration in implementing all policies and rules governing fall school student activities and conduct.
  • Sponsors student activities/clubs/teams/organization and tutors students as requested.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Education with endorsement in the grade/subject taught and Tennessee certificate

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and an endorsement in the grade/subject taught with a valid Tennessee certificate. Governed by the Rules and Regulations of the Tennessee Code Annotated and the collective bargaining agreement.

The following special conditions are required: Commitment for the entire period of fall school. May involve missing some district training opportunities. Attendance at ALL preparatory planning sessions and periodic administrative meetings. Availability prior to the end of the regular school assignment contract to participate in fall school setup and preparation. Availability for fall school closeout operations which may occur after the new academic year contract has started.
