Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools seeks a full-time Special Education Teacher to plan and provide learning experiences for students with disabilities in diverse settings. Under the principal's direction, you will adapt the curriculum and create a flexible program that supports inclusion with supplemental aides and accommodations.

You will collaborate with parents and professionals, maintain student records, and use IEPs to guide progress while offering crisis intervention and ongoing

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an approved program for special education - general curriculum.
• Must be eligible or possess a valid Collegiate Professional License from the State of Virginia.
• Comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect instructional support in a positive environment.
• Modify the general education curriculum for students with disabilities.
• Meet with parents to discuss progress and priorities for individualized needs.
• Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other professionals to develop IEPs.
• Maintain accurate student records and reports as required by laws and policies.
• Establish clear objectives for lessons and communicate them to students.
• Provide crisis intervention when needed and participate in data collection for interventions.
• Serve on a multidisciplinary team as appropriate.
