Job summary

King William County Public Schools seeks a dedicated special education teacher under the direction of the principal and Director of Special Programs. The role requires a Virginia teaching license with appropriate endorsements and is a 10-month, exempt position.

You will provide specialized instruction in diverse settings, develop IEPs, collaborate with families and professionals, maintain records, and use inclusive practices to support students with disabilities toward the general education

Qualifications

• Virginia teaching license with endorsements in required content area/grade level.
• At least three (3) years’ prior teaching experience in the desired content area/grade level is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students.
• Employ special educational strategies to support development.
• Instruct students using phonetics, multisensory learning, and repetition.
• Teach behavior within an IEP framework and positive behavioral support system.
• Modify the general education curriculum for students with disabilities.
• Plan and conduct balanced instruction with opportunities to observe and investigate.
• Meet with parents to discuss progress and IEP priorities.
• Collaborate with professionals to develop IEPs for student development.
• Maintain accurate student records and prepare required reports.
• Set clear learning objectives and communicate them to students.
• Develop communication and follow-up plans for inclusive settings.
• Provide crisis intervention as needed.
• Assist in data collection for interventions and reports.
• Maintain professional competence through staff development.
