Job summary

Wake County Public School System in North Carolina seeks a dedicated special education teacher to develop and implement IEPs for students with disabilities.

You will use diagnostic information to update IEPs, apply instructional strategies, and monitor progress to meet individualized goals. Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team is essential to support diverse learner needs and student safety.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of instructional practices and delivery related to specially designed instruction.
• Extensive knowledge of general content curriculum standards and age appropriate developmental expectations.
• Considerable knowledge of state and federal policies and procedures overseeing the services of students with disabilities.
• Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps.
• Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to protect the confidentiality of personally identifiable information in accordance with FERPA.
• Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with others.
• Ability to motivate students.
• Ability to monitor and supervise safety and well‑being of students.
• Ability to recognize and support diverse learners.
• Clear and concise communication both orally and in writing.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, students, parents, and the community.

Responsibilities

• Develops IEPs for students with disabilities; updates based on assessments.
• Implements instructional strategies and progress monitoring tools.
• Assists students in completing curriculum tasks and IEP goals.
• Employs varied teaching methods and adapts materials to meet needs.
• Monitors student behavior; maintains classroom discipline and teaches behavioral strategies.
• Evaluates student work and coordinates progress/report cards.
• Attends IEP meetings and collaborates with the team.
• Stays current with trends and best practices through professional development.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
