Job summary

Newark Board of Education is seeking a Teacher of Special Education. The position requires appropriate NJDOE certification or eligibility and a Bachelor's degree (preferred).

Responsibilities include planning individualized instruction, evaluating progress, and communicating with parents and staff to support students with special needs. The role involves coordinating with aides and paraprofessionals, maintaining records, and contributing to a positive classroom and district environment.

Qualifications

• NJDOE certification or CE/CEAS as deemed necessary by the state requirements.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
• Evaluates student progress on a regular basis and prepares progress reports.
• Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communications skills and other general elements of the course of study common to all teachers, as specified in state law and district procedures.
• Provides individual, small, and/or large group instruction to adapt curriculum to students with varying abilities.
• Instructs pupils in proper use of textbooks, equipment and materials.
• Maintains standards of pupil behavior to provide a productive environment.
• Selects and requisitions books, materials, equipment and maintains inventory records.
• Develops instructional plans and organizes class time for a balanced program.
• Participates in professional growth activities.
• Plans and coordinates work of aides and paraprofessionals.
• Communicates with parents and pupil personnel staff on student progress.
• Plans and sponsors student activities and faculty committees.
• Acts as a resource person to relate subject area to other departments.
• Maintains open lines of communication with students and parents regarding progress.

Education

New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, Certificate of Eligibility (CE), or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS)

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
