Through the use of consultation, resource, and inclusion models in a variety of academic environments, the Special Education team aims to provide support for students while working to ensure as much time as appropriate is spent within the general classroom.Additionally, Great Hearts has identified two certification pathways through Rio Salado College that allow us to “grow our own” special education teachers, the ESS Teacher-in-Residence Program (The TIR) and the ESS Post-Baccalaureate program (The Post-Bacc). Commit to enrolling in the Teacher-in-Residence program at Rio Salado College and obtaining the Special Education Teaching Certificate – Mild to Moderate Disabilities by the time of employment. Required/Preferred Experience: 1-2 years of special education experience.Required/Preferred Skills: Certifications: SPED certification provision or standard to include, AZ Mild to Moderate, K-12 Cross-Categorical SPED. Certifications in specific learning disabilities such as, Moderate/Severe Disabilities K-12, or Intern/Alternative may be accepted.ORCertifications: Alternative Teaching with approved area in Mild/Moderate Disabilities. Alternative teaching certificates must be converted to provisional or standard mild to moderate within a two-year period.Physical Functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching.
