COMPENSATION
Per Teacher Salary Schedule based on education and experience. District 308 grants experience credit on the salary schedule for up to 10 years of prior, verifiable, contractual full-time teaching experience.
UNION MEMBERSHIP
This position is represented by the Oswego Education Association (OEA) and requires payment of membership dues or a fair share of the costs of services rendered by the Association.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A valid/registered Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS I endorsement & Bilingual Endorsement
- Recent special education teaching experience (excluding new graduates)
- Knowledge of current teaching techniques for students with disabilities
- Ability to write & implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
- Excellent communication and time management skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, team members, and others
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Special Education Teacher provides direct services to students with disabilities aged 3-21 and collaborates with general and special education staff to support these students. Responsibilities include managing a caseload, participating in IEP teams, and monitoring student progress.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide collaborative consultation to staff regarding MTSS prereferral intervention strategies.
- Participate in team meetings, planning times, building committees, and district committees.
- Screen and evaluate students, conduct observations, and write reports with evaluation findings and educational recommendations.
- Re-evaluate students as recommended by the IEP team.
- Submit records, reports, and assignments promptly and efficiently.
- Contribute evaluation findings and collaborate on IEP development and implementation.
- Work cooperatively to achieve IEP goals and benchmarks.
- Manage a caseload of students with disabilities.
- Provide individualized instruction and consult with teachers and other providers.
- Maintain student data to document performance and other relevant information.
- Monitor student progress regularly.
- Communicate with parents, teachers, and staff regarding student performance.
- Participate in professional development activities.
- Support and implement district policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Adhere to ethical standards and legal requirements in special education.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure effective teaching and learning.
