Job summary

May Institute Norwood, MA is seeking a Special Education Teacher Assistant to join our May Center School for Brain Injury. This full-time role supports students aged 5-21 with brain injury or neurobehavioral disorders using ABA-based methods.

You’ll assist with personal care, classroom activities, and behavior management to foster safety, growth, and independence. You’ll collaborate with teachers and families, documenting progress for the multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Valid and current U.S. driver’s license with at least 1 year of licensed driving experience.
  • Empathy, patience, compassion, and the ability to support children with diverse needs.
  • Experience with children or individuals with special needs preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborative teamwork with lead teachers to implement IEPs.
  • Direct support with personal care tasks and behavior crises.

Special Education Teacher Assistant

Full-Time, 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday 7:15am-3:45pm

As a Teacher Assistant at our May Center School in Norwood you'll be an essential part of our mission to support students ages 5-21 with Brain Injury or Neurobehavioral Disorders as they work toward their goals and aspirations. While working with students and using proven methods of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), you’ll provide compassionate care, facilitate personalized assistance, and engage in skill-building activities.

You’ll help create a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where children can grow, thrive, and achieve greater independence. Join us as we make a meaningful difference, one day at a time!

What You'll Do
  • Collaborative Teamwork: Partner closely with lead teachers to bring individualized educational plans (IEPs) to life, ensuring each student's unique needs are met.
  • Direct Support: Provide hands-on assistance with personal care tasks and expertly manage behavioral crises, offering unwavering support to students during classroom activities to foster a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Positive Communication: Harness the power of positive behavior support strategies to develop essential social skills, enhance communication abilities, and promote independence among students.
  • Supportive Atmosphere: Cultivate a warm, supportive atmosphere where students feel valued, respected, and empowered to embrace their journey of learning and growth.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Thoroughly document student progress and maintain open lines of communication with parents, caregivers, and the multidisciplinary team, ensuring everyone is informed and involved in each student's educational journey.
What You Bring
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred Previous special education or human services experience strongly preferred Strong verbal and written communication skills Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis a plus
  • At least 1 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
  • Bachelor degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
