Job summary

Ampersand Therapy is seeking a Special Education Teacher Assistant for a school setting in Clanton, AL. The role supports students with special needs by assisting instruction, implementing IEP goals, and monitoring behavior under teacher supervision.

Full-time position for the 2026-2027 school year. Competitive pay up to $17-20/hour, W-2 employment with benefits, 0.8 FTE optional, and mileage reimbursement between sites.

Qualifications

• Must hold an Associate’s degree, OR have completed at least 48 semester hours at an accredited institution, OR have passed the Alabama WorkKeys test.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills required.
• School-based experience preferred, not required.

Responsibilities

• Support and reinforce IEP goals and classroom objectives through adapted activities.
• Provide individual and small-group instruction under teacher supervision.
• Assist students with academic, behavioral, social, communication, and daily living skills.
• Support teachers with testing, assignments, and classroom activities.
• Assist students with personal care needs, including feeding, toileting, grooming, and mobility when needed.
• Implement behavior intervention plans and reinforce positive learning strategies.
• Monitor and supervise students across classrooms, lunchrooms, playgrounds, field trips, and other settings.
• Collaborate with teachers and staff to monitor student progress and implement IEP objectives.
• Maintain student records, daily logs, and data collection as required.
• Help maintain a safe, positive learning environment and respond to emergencies.

What We’re Looking For

• Must hold an Associate’s degree, OR Have completed at least 48 semester hours at a regionally accredited institution of higher education, OR Have successfully completed the Alabama State Board of Education-approved WorkKeys test.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• School-based experience preferred, not required
