Job summary

The Summit Center in Amherst, NY is seeking a Special Education Teacher to lead a collaborative classroom serving students with autism and other developmental, social, and behavioral needs. You will tailor instruction and coordinate with professionals across disciplines. Required: Bachelor's in Special Education; NYS Special Education cert or working toward certification.

Masters preferred. Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8:00 AM–3:30 PM; pay starts at $61,500 with no certification or $64,575 with

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education required or near completion.
  • Masters degree in Special Education preferred.
  • NYS Special Education cert or Students with Disabilities cert or in progress.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and monitor individual casebooks, data collection, and charting systems.
  • Manage behavioral challenges in students with diverse needs.
  • Supervise and manage activities of classroom aides.
  • Ensure curriculum is appropriate and implemented effectively.
  • Create and maintain an organized, productive classroom environment.
  • Apply effective instructional strategies tailored to students' needs.
  • Coordinate with Support Service Personnel across disciplines.
  • Communicate with families and external service providers about progress.
  • Demonstrate professional knowledge of children with developmental disabilities.
  • Demonstrate professional writing skills in documentation and reports.
  • Meet deadlines and maintain accountability aligned with agency values.

Pay: $61,500 with no certification, $64,575/year with certification & sign-on bonus available

Location: Amherst, NY

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM, 37.5 hrs./week

As a Special Education Teacher, you will lead a collaborative team and manage all aspects of your classroom environment. You will provide tailored instruction to meet each student’s unique needs, coordinate with professionals from various disciplines, and serve as the case manager responsible for overseeing the progress and support of your assigned students.

  • Assure that appropriate curriculum is established and implemented
  • Organize an effective classroom environment

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors degree in Special Education required, Masters degree in Special Education preferred.

NYS Special Education Permanent certificate or Students with Disabilities certificate or actively working toward certification
