Job summary

The Summit Center in Buffalo, NY seeks a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team. You will develop and monitor individualized education plans, manage classroom behavior, supervise aides, implement effective curricula, and collaborate with families and external providers to support student success.

Qualified candidates hold a Bachelor's in Special Education (Master's preferred) and a NYS Special Education certificate or active certification work toward it.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Special Education required.
• Masters degree in Special Education preferred.
• NYS Special Education Permanent certificate or Students with Disabilities certificate or actively working toward certification.

Responsibilities

• Establish and monitor individual casebooks, data collection and charting systems.
• Manage behavioral challenges.
• Supervise and manage activities of aides assigned to the classroom.
• Assure that appropriate curriculum is established and implemented.
• Organize an effective classroom environment.
• Administer appropriate and effective instructional strategies.
• Coordinate and collaborate with Support Service Personnel.
• Collaborate and effectively communicate with families and external service providers.
• Demonstrate professional knowledge of children with developmental disabilities.
• Demonstrate professional writing skills.

Pay: $64,575/year, Sign-on bonus available

Location: Buffalo, NY

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM, 37.5 hrs./week

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors degree in Special Education required, Masters degree in Special Education preferred.
