Job summary

Tennyson Center for Children is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to provide classroom instruction for students with diverse learning, emotional, and behavioral needs in Colorado. The role reports to the Principal/Director of Education and focuses on delivering individualized instruction aligned to IEPs in a safe, therapeutic setting.

Qualified candidates will hold a Colorado Special Education Generalist license, be TCI trained with refreshers, and pass all required pre-employment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education required.
  • Colorado teaching license with Special Education Generalist required.
  • TCI training and refreshers must be maintained.
  • Current Colorado driver’s license required.
  • Pre-employment checks (drug test, FBI, CBI, child abuse registry, MVR, academic and references) required.

Responsibilities

  • Assess students' academic and instructional needs.
  • Provide differentiated instruction aligned to IEP goals.
  • Implement and align instruction to each student’s IEP.
  • Maintain a safe, developmentally appropriate learning environment.
  • Communicate progress and collaborate with families and teams.

The Special Education Teacher provides classroom instruction to students with a wide range of learning, emotional and behavioral disabilities. The Special Education Teacher adapts, modifies, and provide engaging instructional opportunities for students with significant educational and behavioral support needs as identified on the Individual Education Program (IEP). This position has no supervisory duties and reports directly to the Principal/Director of Education.

Essential Job Functions
  • Identify students’ academic and instructional needs through formal and informal assessments
  • Provide differentiated classroom instruction aligned to student needs and grade level skills.
  • Implement and align instruction to student’s individual IEP
  • Provide a clean, safe, and developmentally appropriate and therapeutic learning environment
  • Represent each student's academic, social, and emotional abilities and needs during child team meetings, IEP meetings and monthly child staffings
  • Create a positive learning environment and effective behavior management structures to purposefully promote and foster effective teaching and learning
  • Form trusting relationships with the children by forming a therapeutic alliance and demonstrating an appropriate and nurturing adult role model while setting limits and providing consistent structure
  • Monitor, evaluate and document each student’s progress utilizing appropriate measurements
  • Assist parents with understanding and supporting educational goals and appropriate developmental expectations
  • Assist in transition planning and activities associated with students’ return to public school
  • Responsible for maintaining up to date applicable personal initial/professional license in Special Education Generalist from Colorado Department of Education (CDE)
  • Supports and advances quality improvement efforts through adherence to Tennyson Center policies and procedures, regulator standards, and best practices
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to implement behavioral management techniques as needed
Working Conditions
  • On-campus environment, school based, and day treatment settings
  • Minimal travel may be required
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education
  • Valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Teaching License with Special Education Generalist or equivalent
  • TCI trained and TCI refreshers maintained during the course of employment
  • All candidates must have (or qualify to obtain) a current Colorado driver's license
  • All positions require a pre-employment drug test, FBI fingerprint check, CBI criminal records check, child abuse registry check, motor vehicle record check, academic record verification, and reference checks

The estimated salary for this role is $65,000.00-$70,000.00 annually.
