Job summary

Elmwood Village Charter School in Buffalo, NY seeks an Integrated Co-Teacher (Special Education) to co-create inclusive classrooms, deliver specially designed instruction, and manage IEPs within a collaborative, high-expectation environment.

The ideal candidate will hold NYS SWD certification, have urban-education experience, and collaborate with general educators, families, and related service providers to support student outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree is required; Master's degree preferred.
• Valid NYS Certification in Students with Disabilities (SWD) Grades 1-6 or 7-12, as applicable.
• Experience in urban school settings or with diverse student populations is valued.
• Strong collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills for families and staff.

Responsibilities

• Co-plan lessons with General Education teacher using ICT models (station, parallel, team).
• Deliver specialized instruction to students with IEPs in general and small-group settings.
• Serve as primary IEP case manager: drafting IEPs, reviews, progress monitoring, documentation.
• Use formal/informal data to inform instructional decisions and track student growth.
• Foster an inclusive classroom culture that supports neurodiversity, independence, and high expectations.
• Communicate regularly with families, related service providers, and administrators to ensure cohesive support.
• Ensure practices comply with NYSED regulations and IDEA mandates.

EVCS believes that all students can and will learn at high levels when provided with the right learning conditions.The RoleWe are seeking a passionate, collaborative, and highly skilled Integrated Co-Teacher (Special Education) to join our team. In this role, you will partner with a General Education teacher to implement an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) model. You will be responsible for implementing curriculum and accommodations, delivering specialized instruction, and fostering an inclusive environment that ensures all students meet high academic and social-emotional standards.Key ResponsibilitiesCo-Planning & Instruction: Partner with the General Education teacher to co-plan lessons that utilize diverse co-teaching models (e.g., station teaching, parallel teaching, team teaching) to meet the needs of all learners.Specialized Instruction: Deliver direct, specially designed instruction to students with IEPs within the general education classroom, as well as in small group settings when necessary.IEP Management: Serve as the primary case manager for a caseload of students. This includes drafting IEPs, conducting annual reviews, monitoring progress toward goals, and maintaining accurate, timely documentation.Data-Driven Decision Making: Use formal and informal assessment data to inform instructional strategies, adjust supports, and track student growth.Inclusive Environment: Facilitate a classroom culture that celebrates neurodiversity, fosters student independence, and maintains high expectations for all children.Collaboration: Communicate regularly with families, related service providers (speech, OT, PT), and school administrators to ensure a cohesive support network for students.Compliance: Ensure all classroom practices remain in full compliance with New York State Education Department (NYSED) regulations and IDEA mandates.Qualifications & RequirementsEducation: Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred).Certification: Valid New York State Certification in Students with Disabilities (SWD) Grades 1-6 or 7-12 commensurate with the specific vacancy level.Experience: Proven experience working in an urban school setting or with diverse student populations is highly valued.Collaboration: Exceptional interpersonal skills and a desire to work in a highly collaborative, team-oriented school environment.Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for documentation and parent outreach, an ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.Philosophy: Deep alignment with the EVCS mission, including a commitment to fostering equity, inclusion, and student agency.Resilience: A proactive, \"can-do\" attitude and the ability to thrive in a collaborative and fast-paced school environment.What We OfferCompetitive salary commensurate with experience.
