Job summary

Sioux Falls School District is seeking an Education Assistant at Laura Wilder Elementary to support students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs. The role involves 0.875 FTE, 35 hours per week, for 9 months, with a starting wage of $18.42 per hour and a $1,000 sign-on bonus.

Responsibilities include escorting students, 1:1 and small-group support, materials preparation, and maintaining confidentiality. Post-high school education or passing state tests may be required.

Qualifications

• Two years of post high school education or higher, or pass state SD test for designated Education Assistant positions.
• At least one year of work experience requiring interpersonal interaction and support for students with social, emotional, behavior needs.
• Physical requirements include constant hand-eye coordination, hearing, ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Experience with behavior management is required.

Responsibilities

• Escort students to transportation and other areas of the building.
• Provide personal care to students with special daily living needs as needed.
• Review and practice skills taught by teachers with students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Work with students in schools and on community outings.
• Prepare instructional materials as directed by teachers.
• Reinforce instructional and behavioral objectives.
• Maintain student records and data for progress notes.
• Supervise students during recess, lunch, and playground.
• Maintain confidentiality of students and families.
• Reinforce instructional and behavioral objectives for children.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
