Job summary

Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is seeking a Substitute Teacher for Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled (MSSD). The role involves creating individualized education programs, adapting lessons for students with disabilities, and coordinating behavioral and communication supports.

Applicants must have 60 college hours for a substitute certificate or hold a Missouri Teaching Certificate, and maintain CPR/AED/First Aid certifications.

Qualifications

• Eligible for Missouri Substitute Teacher’s Certificate with 60 semester hours from an accredited college or university.
• Missouri Teaching Certificate.
• Professional license pursuant to state law must be maintained.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement individualized education programs for students with disabilities using MSSD curriculum.
• Analyze learning styles and adapt teaching strategies to meet student needs.
• Select age-appropriate activities and materials for teaching.
• Attend IEP team and special education meetings.
• Coordinate behavioral support plans for students with challenging behaviors.
• Coordinate communication systems for students.
• Develop time-efficient daily schedules for IEPs.
• Follow health care procedures as specified for each student.
• Maintain safe learning environments and confidentiality of information.
• Comply with MSSD policies and guidelines.
• Assist with daily self-care needs as required.
• Maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications.
