Job summary

Independent School District 196 seeks a Special Education Strategies Teacher for the 2026-27 school year. You will teach the Strategies program serving students with social communication and self-regulation needs in a supported environment.

The role requires Mn Department of Education licensure and a commitment to culturally responsive practices. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to implement IEPs and Behavior Support Plans for students aged birth through 21.

Qualifications

• Licensed by the Minnesota Department of Education in ABS, ASD, EBD, DD, or LD (Dual licensure preferred).
• Strong general education background.
• Experience with diverse cultures, races, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Growth mindset and ability to accelerate growth in skills using a strengths-based model.
• Ability to work efficiently with multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to relate positively to students, staff, and community.
• Experience in a school setting or with ages birth through 21.
• Ability to follow directions and facilitate collaborative teaming around students.
• Ability to facilitate, write and implement IEPs and Behavior Support Plans.
• Collaborate with nursing staff to support health tasks.
• Direct the work of paraprofessionals and train/support them.
• Knowledge of best practices in special education and sensory activities, PBIS, academics.
• Understanding and ability to conduct comprehensive evaluations.
• Understanding laws and regulations of special education.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Valid driver's license or travel between locations.
• Experience with diverse school communities is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Teach curriculum of Independent School District 196.
• Support students in the Strategies program for social communication and self-regulation.
• Develop culturally responsive practices for equitable outcomes.
• Provide proactive support for emotional regulation difficulties.
• Instruct strategies to develop social-emotional skills for success.
• Use assistive technology to access tools for efficiency.
• Maintain high expectations using various instructional techniques.
• Collaborate to plan, teach and support students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment.
• Advocate for students with disabilities to ensure achievement.
• Promote strong communication with staff, parents and other professionals.
• Carry out responsibilities as defined by the master contract.
