Job description

Position: Special Education Teacher Learning Behavior Specialist (Co-Taught or Resource Teacher)

Reports To: Principal and Director of Teaching and Learning

Qualifications
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS) endorsement
OBJECTIVES

The teacher is responsible for implementing the individual education programs and evaluating student progress for students in special education.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assesses special needs of individual students and collaborates with staff in meeting those needs.
  • Maintains appropriate student records.
  • Provides instructions to classroom and 1-1 paraprofessionals and engenders a team atmosphere.
  • Motivates students through positive feedback based upon their i.e.p.s and school-wide PBIS, if appropriate.
  • Participates in district and school committees.
  • Maintains a clean, attractive and safe learning environment.
  • Maintains positive relationships and works with parents to achieve student objectives.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Performs other duties as required.
