Job summary

Portage Public Schools at West Middle School seeks an ESI Teacher (Special Education - Resource Room) to collaborate with general education staff to adapt curriculum for students with IEPs in the Least Restrictive Environment.

The resource room teacher will assess student needs, develop and implement IEPs and behavior plans, monitor progress with data, communicate with families, and maintain high standards of attendance and organization consistent with the district's best practices.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid Michigan teaching certificate with a Special Education endorsement.
• Experience with IEPs and behavior plans is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in skill assessment and data collection for students with IEPs.
• Instruct students with diverse needs including behavioral challenges.
• Coordinate, write, and implement IEPs and behavior intervention plans.
• Collaborate with general education teachers to provide appropriate supports.
• Implement instruction aligned with current educational research and best practices.
• Ensure compliance with data-driven decision laws.
• Communicate effectively with families, colleagues and administrators.
• Demonstrate strong attendance, work ethic, organizational and classroom-management skills.
• Assume other duties as assigned.
