Job summary

Methuen Public Schools seeks a Resource Room Teacher LTS to support students identified with special needs and develop individualized education plans in coordination with the evaluation team. The role includes diagnostic testing, documentation, parent conferences, and annual re-evaluation of students, with participation in staff meetings and school programs.

Qualifications

• Communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
• Use evidence-based research practices and data to guide increasing student achievement.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and the community.
• Work independently, prioritize tasks and manage several projects simultaneously.
• Perform duties with awareness of district requirements, state and federal laws, and district policies.
• Work with students of diverse backgrounds with diverse needs in an equitable and inclusive manner.
• Maintain appropriate confidential records.
• React professionally and objectively to unpredictable situations.
• Operate computer software including Google and instructional technology.
• Collaborate, teach, coach and lead to support student programming.
• Strong organizational skills for a high-demand position.
• Knowledge of content area and related laws and procedures.
• Plan and implement lessons based on objectives and student needs.

Responsibilities

• Plans a program of study meeting individual student needs and abilities.
• Creates a safe classroom environment conducive to learning.
• Guides learning toward curriculum goals with clear objectives.
• Employs best instructional methods to meet objectives.
• Work with students identified as having special needs.
• Develop and implement individualized education plans with evaluation team.
• Provide diagnostic testing of referred students.
• Submit reports, logs, and data as required by SEA.
• Participate in staff meetings, in-service training and programs.
• Communicate with colleagues, students, and parents regularly.
• Adhere to policies and classroom rules and maintain order.
• Plan and supervise teacher aide(s) and volunteers.
• Attend staff meetings and serve on committees.
• Participate in staff development programs.
