Job summary

Chester County Intermediate Unit seeks a Long Term Substitute Special Education Coordinator to join the instructional leadership team. The role focuses on ensuring IEP fidelity, program excellence, and staff development within designated special education programs.

The position reports to the principal, collaborates with coaches, and leads professional learning while maintaining high expectations for student achievement and compliant documentation.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Educational Leadership or related field required.
• Minimum of 5 years successful teaching experience in special education required.
• Demonstrated success in improving instructional quality and student outcomes.
• Experience with formal teacher evaluation, curriculum implementation, and professional development delivery preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct frequent classroom walkthroughs with coaching and actionable feedback to teachers and staff.
• Support implementation of evidence-based instructional practices aligned with IEPs and standards.
• Collaborate with instructional coaches, department chairs, and related service providers for consistency and excellence.
• Review data with teachers to develop instructional and intervention strategies improving student outcomes.
• Lead as instructional leader for designated program areas and ensure individualized programming.
• Collaborate with families, service providers, and community partners to promote student growth.
• Coordinate hiring/onboarding and schedule staff across programs.
• Provide coaching and mentorship to staff for professional growth and quality of instruction.
• Ensure IEP fidelity, compliance, and high-quality documentation within programs.
• Serve as resource on special ed law and policies; support IEP meetings and goal development.
• Collaborate with administrators to align school-wide initiatives with program needs.
• Lead professional learning communities and targeted professional development.
• Promote a safe, structured, inclusive school environment and consistent behavior expectations.
• Support safety protocols, drills, and behavior response systems with the admin team.
• Lead teams in addressing complex student social/emotional situations and crises.
• Support behavior plans and trauma-informed strategies with mental health partners.
