Job summary

Discovery Regional HS seeks Parent Mentors (family members of students with disabilities) to support families by providing information and resources that help children succeed in school and transition to adult life. You will work with parents, students, staff, and the community to strengthen communication.

Requirements include attending GaDOE trainings, excellent oral and written communication, strong organization and computer skills, and the ability to collaborate across teams.

Qualifications

• Must be a parent or family member of a child with a disability who has received or is receiving special education services through an IEP.
• Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
• Strong organization and computer skills are required.
• Ability to work well with students, parents, staff and the community.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with parents one-on-one regarding concerns or needs.
• Support parent participation in meetings.
• Help parents understand policies and procedures of special education services.
• Research information to aid parents in accessing services beyond school.
• Prepare and present information to raise awareness among parents, teachers and community.
