Job summary

MCLEAN COUNTY UNIT DISTRICT #5 is seeking a Paraprofessional - Special Education to work with students who have learning disabilities, autism, or mild behaviors within a general education setting. The role supports individualized needs and helps students benefit from the district's special education program.

The position requires an educator license with stipulations for paraprofessional or professional education, excellent communication, and the ability to work with diverse staff and students.

Qualifications

• Must possess an educator license with stipulations endorsed for paraprofessional or professional educator license at hire.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills to work with teachers, support personnel, administrators, and the public.
• Enforce school regulations and policies in a professional manner.
• Ability to maintain good working relationships with staff and pupils.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs; push/pull up to 10 lbs.
• Must be detailed oriented.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate instructional efforts by discussing duties with classroom teachers.
• Prepare lesson materials, displays, equipment, and demonstrations as needed.
• Assist with presenting subject matter under teacher guidance using lectures, discussions, or role-playing.
• Maintain professional relations and provide supportive environment for students.
• Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, and during activities and trips.
• Assist with behavior management and positive reinforcement techniques.
• Support students with self-care, hygiene, and feeding as necessary.
• Serve as information resource to substitutes and maintain confidentiality.
