Job summary

HTU is seeking a dedicated paraprofessional to assist Special Education Teachers across self-contained and general education classrooms in Plainfield, NJ. You will support students with disabilities, help with communication and classroom adaptations, and implement IEP‑driven behavior plans under teacher direction.

The role requires either an IL Paraprofessional license (ELS(PARA)), Substitute (SUB), or Professional Educator License (PEL) and strong teamwork and communication skills.

Qualifications

• College transcripts with 60+ credits or completion of WorkKeys.
• State licenses listed: ELS(PARA), SUB, or PEL.
• Ability to work as part of a diverse educational team.
• Experience with students who have disabilities and behavior monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Assist Special Education Teachers with instructional tasks in self-contained and general education settings.
• Support students with disabilities within classrooms and throughout the school building.
• Help students with communication, scheduling, problem solving, and curriculum modifications.
• Provide toileting assistance as needed.
• Adapt activities and materials under teacher direction to meet objectives.
• Implement behavioral plans designed by IEP team for students with behavior disorders.
• Monitor students across school settings including lunch, recess, and restrooms.
• Support transportation needs for students.
• Establish positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
• Perform related duties to ensure a productive educational environment.

Your Role

Key responsibilities include:

• Assisting Special Education Teachers with instructional tasks in both self-contained and general education settings.
• Supporting students with disabilities within classrooms and throughout the educational building.
• Helping students with communication, scheduling, problem solving, and curriculum modifications.
• Providing toileting assistance to students as needed.
• Adapting classroom activities, assignments, and materials under teacher direction to reinforce classroom objectives.
• Implementing behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions.
• Monitoring students across school settings including lunch, recess, specials, and restroom.
• Supporting transportation needs for students.
• Establishing positive working relationships with students, parents, and staff.
• Performing other related duties to ensure efficient and effective educational environment functioning.

About You

The company is looking for candidates with:

• One of the following State of Illinois licenses registered in Will County: Paraprofessional (ELS(PARA)), Substitute (SUB), or Professional Educator License (PEL).
• College transcripts with 60 or more credit hours or successful completion of the WorkKeys Assessment.
• Ability to work as a team member and maintain professional relationships with a wide range of staff and students.
• Strong communication skills and openness to feedback and learning behavior techniques.
• Experience working with special needs students and monitoring student behavior.

Compensation & Benefits

• Hourly wage no less than $19.70 based on verifiable similar experience per the negotiated PASS Agreement.

Hours
