Job summary

Bardwell Group David Ellis Academy in Detroit, Michigan invites applications for a Special Education Paraprofessional to support teachers and students. You will help implement instructional materials and assist with activities targeting reading, writing and math.

Under supervision of Instructional Supervisors and the School Leader/Director, you will prepare reports, maintain classroom records and promote a respectful learning environment.

Qualifications

• Two years of college study, or an associate’s degree, or demonstrated ability to assist in reading, writing, and math.
• Before January 8, 2002, different federal requirements; paraprofessionals may be exempt if bilingual or parental involvement duties only. For others, meet applicable state certification and requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide assistance with small group instruction within the classroom
• Prepare and submit weekly reports on student progress or lack of progress
• Confer with the classroom instructor on a weekly basis regarding supplemental instructional material for students
• Display the ability to communicate and convey ideas to students, parents and instructors
• Maintain high ethical and professional integrity
• Participate in professional development as assigned and mandated by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001
• Other duties that may be requested by classroom instructors and approved by the School Leader/Director, or directly assigned by the School Leader/Director
