Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional to support students with special education needs in both general and specialized classrooms. The role involves assisting teachers, adapting materials, and helping students participate in activities.

Responsibilities include behavior monitoring, record-keeping, and collaboration with staff, therapists, and parents as needed. Strong communication and clerical skills are essential, with bilingual ability preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Preferred 2 years previous successful experience with children as a Teacher Assistant or equivalent, including 1 year experience with Second Language Acquisition students for bilingual applicants.
• Clerical skills appropriate to duties of position.
• Bilingual applicants must demonstrate proficiency in Spanish and English as determined by District assessment.
• Training required to meet accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide support in general education settings to help students participate in class.
• Deliver academic instruction within special education and general education settings.
• Assist with curriculum adaptation to students’ learning levels.
• Assist with administering testing or assessments and with assignments.
• Assist with preparation of classroom materials.
• Supervise students in the classroom, on the playground, and in the lunchroom.
• Maintain daily records of student behavior and provide feedback to professional staff.
• Attend staff meetings and parent conferences when appropriate.
