Job summary

Southlawn Elementary seeks a Special Education Paraprofessional - Generalist to support students with moderate disabilities in both general and special education settings. Responsibilities include direct instruction, material modification, data collection, and safety supervision, with CPI-based de-escalation and collaboration with teachers.

The role involves a 9-month schedule (8.5 hours/day, Tue–Fri), with a starting hourly rate of $20.89 and benefits eligibility.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as Behavior Plans, IEPs, staff and student handbooks.
• Ability to collect data, write routine reports and simple correspondences.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from general or special education teachers and related services providers.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred, but not required.
• Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct instruction and supervision for students with disabilities in general and special education classrooms.
• Modify academic materials under direction from teachers and assist with instruction delivery.
• Identify and facilitate peer relationships and natural supports.
• Follow through with behavior intervention plans and monitor safety on playground and other areas.
• Maintain forms and records as requested by teachers and therapists.
• De-escalate students using CPI measures as needed.
• Communicate observations and progress with teachers and therapists.
• Assist with minor clerical duties and attend trainings and staffings.
