Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED
• AA degree or 48 credits, or passed Paraprofessional Praxis Test
• Two years experience with emotional disturbance/behavioral issues or equivalent education/experience
• Ability to handle stressful situations with aggressive students
• Ability to lift 30–50 pounds
• Ability to participate in physical restraint when needed
• Regular and predictable attendance
• Ability to perform essential functions with or without accommodations

Responsibilities

• Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce skills
• Help students generalize social and problem-solving skills
• Participate as part of a crisis response team with de-escalation and restraint when needed
• Assist in devising strategies for reinforcing skills and instruction
• Maintain classroom organization and a positive learning environment
• Operate and assist with classroom equipment
• Supervise and manage students during instructional and non-instructional activities
• Assist with physical care and management of students as needed
• Follow through to implement individual programs designed by the teacher
• Participate in team planning and input, as appropriate
• Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all Washington County Public Schools stakeholders
• Other duties as assigned
