Job summary

Minnetonka Public Schools at Excelsior Elementary seeks a Paraprofessional/Special Education Para. Assignment: 3.25 hours per day, 184 days per year, with a minimum hourly rate of $24.31 for 2026-27.

Responsibilities include supporting individualized instruction, assisting with self-care tasks, operating assistive technology, participating in IEP conferences, recording data, and collaborating with staff to help students achieve goals.

Qualifications

• Must meet highly qualified status as defined by the MDE, on day 1 of employment.
• Evidence of successful completion of the Personal Care Assistant Training certification test.
• Demonstrated experience supporting student instruction in the classroom preferred.
• Evidence of knowledge/experience in behavior modification strategies including restitution and resiliency.
• Demonstrated training, knowledge and application of CPI strategies, preferred.
• Ability to be firm but kind, caring but consistent, patient and vigilant.

Responsibilities

• Support, modify, adjust and monitor instruction in academics, functional skills, and behavior programs 1:1 or small groups.
• Assist with self-care tasks; lifting and basic medical procedures under supervision as needed.
• Operate assistive technology and supervise equipment use.
• Apply student management techniques; prevent or stop self-destructive behaviors.
• Participate in IEP or school conferences with staff/parents as requested.
• Write observational data, maintain logs, and monitor attendance daily.
• Perform other duties of similar nature or level as assigned.
• Participate in third-party reimbursement training and tasks as needed.
