Job summary

Mendham Borough School District is seeking a Special Education Aide to support individual and small groups of students with disabilities, providing physical and academic assistance as needed within the district's special education program.

The role reports to the Supervisor of Special Services and/or Principal and requires communication with students, parents and school staff, along with a commitment to helping every child achieve optimum learning outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or teacher certification preferred.
  • Experience as determined by the board.
  • Ability to assist with instructional activities and communicate with students, parents and school staff.
  • Successful experience with children.
  • Knowledge of diverse needs of children with disabilities and appropriate special education practices.
  • Criminal history check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with individualized instruction and works with small groups of students under the supervision of the teacher.
  • Assists, where appropriate, in loading and unloading the special education student from transportation buses or cars.
  • Assists students with various projects, crafts, and curriculum tasks.
  • Helps with the supervision of children on field trips planned by the teacher and under the direction of the Principal.
  • Assists in playground supervision.
  • Engages children in conversation to encourage language development.
  • Aids physically handicapped children, particularly those who rely upon appliances and prosthetics.
  • Performs other appropriate duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services or building principal directly related to a good learning experience for special education students.
  • Completes and compiles data collection under the direct supervision of the special education teacher and case manager, and in collaboration with the behavior specialist.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree, teacher certification preferred
  • Minimum experience as determined by the board

JOB GOAL

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and work year to be determined by the board of education.

Salary & Benefits: Salary Range: $24,198-$28,946. Full benefits available.
