Job summary

Parma City Schools in Parma, OH is seeking a dedicated Educational Aide to support students with disabilities in a K-12 setting. The role reports to Building Principal and Special Education Supervisor, with a 6.5-hour workday, Monday through Friday, and a starting annual salary of $22,653.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, AND 48 college hours or PRAXIS Parapro, plus ability to obtain an Educational Aide Permit.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 48 semester hours or PRAXIS PARAPRO exam.
• 1–2 years experience with students with disabilities preferred.
• Must pass the written test or meet No Child Left Behind Act education requirements.
• Ability to apply for an Educational Aide Permit with Ohio Department of Education.
• Ability to work with students including those displaying challenging behavior.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
• Ability to supervise students responsibly.
• Knowledge of behavior management in school context.
• Physical ability to lift, assist restrain, or pursue handicapped students.
• Clerical skills; familiarity with office machines.
• Prior computer experience preferred.
• Good attendance and punctuality.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and assist students under supervision of licensed staff.
• Follow classroom and school behavior management plans.
• Assist with routine classroom tasks and clerical duties as needed.
• Support students with disabilities in curricular and non‑curricular activities.
• Ensure student safety and maintain positive learning environment.

Reports To: Building Principal/Special Education Supervisor

Work Schedule: 6.5 hours per day, Monday through Friday

Salary: $22,653.00 starting annual salary

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Must have a minimum of 48 semester hoursof secondary education or have passed the PRAXIS PARAPRO exam
• One or two years related experience working with students with disabilities is preferred
• Must pass the written test or meet the educational requirements of the "No Child Left Behind Act"
• Ability to meet the requirements and apply for an Educational Aide Permit with the Ohio Department of Education
• Ability to work effectively with students, this may include students who display aggressive, abusive, or inappropriate verbal and/or physical behavior
• Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively
• Organizational and problem solving skills
• Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing situations
• Ability to assume responsibility for supervising students
• Knowledge and ability to apply behavior management techniques in enforcing school discipline in an appropriate context
• Must possess the physical strength and ability required to lift, assist restrain, or pursue handicapped students
• Clerical skills; including knowledge of office machines
• Previous experience working with computers preferred
