Job summary

Harford County Public Schools is seeking a Paraeducator – Special Education at Deerfield Elementary School to support instruction and assist with IEP/IFSP implementations. The role involves working with students individually or in small groups under teacher guidance, and may include personal care support as needed.

The position is full-time for ten months, with a starting salary of $27,242 and a maximum of $45,749, plus comprehensive benefits. Applications accepted until filled.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Associate degree or 48 college credits with passing scores is required.
• Passing score on paraprofessional exams (ParaPro 455+, or ParaPathways and Foundations tests).
• Foundations of Classroom Support 517 or 519 with a score of 220+.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with students with disabilities preferred.
• Ability to perform restraint techniques; lift up to 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Provides support to students during instruction.
• Implements teacher lesson plans with individuals or small groups of students.
• Works under the direction of the teacher to provide instruction to individuals or small groups of students.
• Assists with data collection, testing, and student assessment.
• Assists with the implementation of IEPs and IFSPs for students with special needs depending on placement.
• Monitors student behavior and implements behavioral strategies and intervention plans.
• Provides assistance with personal care needs including lifting, transferring, feeding, toileting, and restraint as required.
• Prepares instructional materials for students as directed.
• Assists with school-wide duties including field trips, assemblies, class coverage, bus duty, and computer lab.
• Participates in professional development programs as assigned.
• Works with students via digital platforms to provide support during instruction and data collection.
• Performs other work-related duties, including in-person and virtual duties as applicable.
