Job summary

Career Academy Network Of Public Schools is seeking a Life Skills Teacher (Special Education) to provide specialized instruction to students with moderate to severe disabilities in a self-contained classroom. The role centers on developing academic, functional, and adaptive skills aligned with each student’s IEP.

The teacher will collaborate with families, therapists, and staff to promote independence and quality of life, following IDEA/Article 7 compliance and the district’s policies.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid Indiana Teaching License along with an Early Literacy Endorsement.
• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education.
• Experience working with students with significant cognitive or developmental disabilities.
• Knowledge of functional academic instruction, life skills curriculum, and adaptive behavior supports.
• Ability to differentiate instruction and utilize assistive technology.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement IEPs focused on academic, functional, and behavioral goals.
• Provide individualized and small-group instruction in areas such as communication, self-care, daily living, and social skills.
• Modify curriculum and instructional materials to meet unique student needs.
• Collect data on student performance and adjust instruction accordingly.
• Collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, and paraprofessionals.
• Oversee and direct instructional assistants assigned to the classroom.
• Implement behavior support plans and positive reinforcement strategies.
• Communicate regularly with families about student progress, challenges, and goals.
• Ensure compliance with IDEA/Article 7, school policies, and IEP timelines.
