Job summary

Big Spring ISD is seeking two Special Education/Life Skills Aides at Big Spring Junior High School in Big Spring, TX. You will assist the teacher in daily activities, prepare instructional materials, and supervise students throughout the day.

Qualifications

Job Description

Assist the teacher in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under the supervision of a certified teacher.

Job Qualifications

• Education/Certification: High School diploma or GED
• Must meet NCLB requirements:
  • (a) completed at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education; or
  • (b) obtained an associate's (or higher) degree; or
  • (c) meet a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate through a formal state or local assessment:
  • 1. knowledge of, and the ability in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics; or
  • 2. knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.
• Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to work well with children. Knowledge of general office equipment.

• Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
• Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
• Assist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assigned assignments.
• Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom.
• Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
• Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.
