Job summary

IRVING INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking a Special Education Aide for the LIFE program to assist in meeting the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities. You will support classroom programs, personal care needs, behavior management, and instruction under the supervision of a certified teacher and the principal.

The ideal candidate has a High School diploma or GED and an Educational Aide I paraprofessional certificate.

Qualifications

• Educational Aide I Paraprofessional Certificate is required.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to work well with children with disabilities.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Experience working with children/students, parents, or persons with disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Maintain confidentiality.
• Keep accurate records of students with disabilities and furnish to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
• Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus duty, playground, and community.
• Assist teacher in maintaining, copying, transferring confidential folders as required.
• Assist special needs students with individual tasks including transferring to/from wheelchairs, lifting, positioning, feeding, bathroom needs, personal hygiene.
• Assist in managing the behavior of students and crisis intervention.
• Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student’s needs through in-service and/or teacher direction.
• Work with and/or prepare materials for individual students or small groups under teacher direction.
• Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
• Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and legal/local board policies.
• Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned
