Job summary

Under supervision, the assistant reinforces reading, language arts, math, and other skills; works with students individually or in groups; assists with assessments, materials, and records; and supervises lunch, bus duty, and field trips to ensure a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• College coursework or NCLB exam completion preferred.
• Experience with students with special needs desirable.

Responsibilities

• Reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction.
• Work with students individually and in small groups.
• Assist with administration and correction of classroom exercises and assessments.
• Assist in preparing instructional materials and reinforcing skills per student needs.
• Maintain records documenting learning and performance.
• Assist with behavior management to maintain a safe classroom.
• Supervise non-instructional areas (lunch, bus duty, playground).
• Accompany students on field trips for supervision.
• Support parent contact to foster involvement in education.
• Assist students with special needs to maximize inclusion and participation.
• Participate in IEP process as needed.
