Job Title: Special Education Coordinator of the Autism School
Department: Education Department
Responsible to: VP of Education and Superintendent of Schools
Summary
The Special Education Coordinator of the Autism School is responsible for assuring that the program provides a high-quality educational program for students with autism.
Ongoing Duties And Responsibilities
- Have working knowledge of Ohio Department of Education (ODE) licensing regulations and ODE Academic Content Standards grades K-12+.
- Represent the Autism School and Achievement Centers for Children professionally and courteously.
- Follow all Policies/Procedures in the Staff Handbook and Operating Manual.
- Promote a team approach within the agency.
- Work in partnership with individuals and families served.
- Practice safe work habits and contribute to a safe, healthy environment.
- Monitor classrooms, playgrounds, and offices for safety and organization.
- Ensure equipment is in safe working order and report repairs.
- Follow infection control and universal precautions.
- Attend continuing education and stay updated on new techniques and trends.
- Maintain good public relations with community sources.
- Conduct oneself professionally, motivate others, and exercise good judgment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Provide consultation and supervision to classroom staff on IEPs and evaluation reports.
- Supervise and evaluate staff as assigned.
- Develop interventions, IEP goals, behavior assessments, and plans for students needing support.
- Participate in intake/enrollment, coordinate services, and maintain program capacity.
- Ensure IEP compliance and related documentation.
- Train staff in IEP creation and monitor accuracy.
- Maintain digital records of student data.
- Provide crisis support for escalated behaviors.
- Coordinate with school districts on technology and transportation needs.
- Participate in hiring and intake teams.
- Collaborate with leadership on staff meetings and professional development.
- Attend all relevant meetings and trainings.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
- At least 5 years of teaching students with autism and behavioral challenges.
- At least 2 years of supervisory experience in a school or program.
- Training and experience in behavioral interventions and FBA/BIP development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Education/Special Education.
- Knowledge of Ohio Department of Education licensing, regulations, and standards.
- Experience with evidence-based methods like TEACCH, DIR, PECS, Assistive Technology, ABA, and total communication.
- Experience with compliance related to IEPs, ETRs, FBAs/BIPs, laws, and transition practices.
- Proficiency in Word, Publisher, Excel, and digital media tools.
