Job Title: Special Education Coordinator of the Autism School
Department: Education Department
Responsible to: VP of Education and Superintendent of Schools
Summary

The Special Education Coordinator of the Autism School is responsible for assuring that the program provides a high-quality educational program for students with autism.

Ongoing Duties And Responsibilities
  1. Have working knowledge of Ohio Department of Education (ODE) licensing regulations and ODE Academic Content Standards grades K-12+.
  2. Represent the Autism School and Achievement Centers for Children professionally and courteously.
  3. Follow all Policies/Procedures in the Staff Handbook and Operating Manual.
  4. Promote a team approach within the agency.
  5. Work in partnership with individuals and families served.
  6. Practice safe work habits and contribute to a safe, healthy environment.
  7. Monitor classrooms, playgrounds, and offices for safety and organization.
  8. Ensure equipment is in safe working order and report repairs.
  9. Follow infection control and universal precautions.
  10. Attend continuing education and stay updated on new techniques and trends.
  11. Maintain good public relations with community sources.
  12. Conduct oneself professionally, motivate others, and exercise good judgment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned. Must be able to perform all ongoing and essential duties satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

  1. Provide consultation and supervision to classroom staff on IEPs and evaluation reports.
  2. Supervise and evaluate staff as assigned.
  3. Develop interventions, IEP goals, behavior assessments, and plans for students needing support.
  4. Participate in intake/enrollment, coordinate services, and maintain program capacity.
  5. Ensure IEP compliance and related documentation.
  6. Train staff in IEP creation and monitor accuracy.
  7. Maintain digital records of student data.
  8. Provide crisis support for escalated behaviors.
  9. Coordinate with school districts on technology and transportation needs.
  10. Participate in hiring and intake teams.
  11. Collaborate with leadership on staff meetings and professional development.
  12. Attend all relevant meetings and trainings.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
  • At least 5 years of teaching students with autism and behavioral challenges.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience in a school or program.
  • Training and experience in behavioral interventions and FBA/BIP development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Education/Special Education.
  • Knowledge of Ohio Department of Education licensing, regulations, and standards.
  • Experience with evidence-based methods like TEACCH, DIR, PECS, Assistive Technology, ABA, and total communication.
  • Experience with compliance related to IEPs, ETRs, FBAs/BIPs, laws, and transition practices.
  • Proficiency in Word, Publisher, Excel, and digital media tools.
