A Day in Your Life as Case Manager:

  • Develop, write and manage IEPs including annual goals for students with special needs across two middle schools.
  • Coordinate IEPs and follow up with attendees
  • Complete academic assessments and write Assessment Plans, Reports, Prior Written Notices, and other related IEP documents in preparation for IEPs or to assess ongoing progress, within appropriate timelines, and as needed
  • Collaborate with specialists (OTs, SLPs and other related service providers) and school staff on monitoring student progress throughout the year, including annual IEP goals
  • Develop and implement appropriate Behavior Support Plans or behavior management techniques for use in instructional and interpersonal activities
  • Knowledgeably identify and guide the implementation of appropriate accommodations, and/or modifications to ensure scholars' learning success in the general education classroom
  • Follow up with service providers to confirm that IEP attendance, reports, and track services to ensure compliance.
  • Hold regular meetings with the general education teachers and for families of students assigned to caseload
  • Provide ongoing consultation and guidance on the use of new and innovative methods, strategies, and materials which enhance the education progress of students with special needs
  • Ensure all documents are submitted and available prior to IEP meeting (psychologist’s report, related services provider reports/goals, GE/parent progress reports) and forwarded to IEP team members
  • Maintain accurate and correct records as required by law. Update Welligent with services, accommodations, IEP dates and other necessary information. Track IEPs. Provide parents with a copy of all reports
  • Collaborate with administrators, teachers and instructional assistants in developing and monitoring the success of scholars in the general education program
  • Communicate and collaborate with families regarding the behavior and academic progress of their scholar and engage them in the IEP process
  • Start your day by 7:30am with a school team huddle and end at 3:45pm after scholar dismissal
  • Active participation in weekly professional development aimed at refining both school culture and academics
  • Perform other duties to support our scholars and school community.




Special Education Leadership Responsibilities

  • Onboarding of new RSP teacher s(RSP)/Academic Coordinators (AC)/Special Education Instructional Aides (Sp Ed IA)/ Behavior Interventionists (BII); including developing an onboarding plan in collaboration with Principal and Director of Special Education; coordinating with all relevant stakeholders to ensure new RSP/AC/IA/BII is connected and able to begin all components of their role; and leading portions of the onboarding plan.
  • Professional Development including supporting school-wide awareness of the needs of scholars with disabilities by delivering a minimum of 2 PDs that focus on implementation of accommodations and co-teaching; collaborating with school site leadership on development of site specific PDs; host school site special education department meetings; supporting school site behavior interventionists (if applicable) through monthly check-ins; co-observing school site co-teaching practices once per trimester to provide feedback on implementation; and participating in after school Leadership Team meetings
  • Compliance, including reviewing incoming scholar spreadsheet; managing school site hub for IEP information; confirming and maintaining accuracy of Welligent and PowerSchool rosters; providing caseload information and class schedules to related service providers in August; running 300 and master calendar reports weekly, uploading to Google Drive folder, and following up on any compliance flags; collecting monthly service logs from providers and upload to Google Drive folder; ensuring completion of IEP goal progress monitoring and trimester progress reporting; creating and maintaining compliance Google calendar; leading process at school site for CDE and/or LAUSD monitoring audits; case management and Welligent compliance for school site academic coordinator(s)
  • CAST/CAASPP/ELPAC Testing including coordinating CAST/CAASPP testing for small groups and small groups for ELPAC; ensuring testing accommodation spreadsheets are completed by due date.

  • A current Education Specialist Instruction teaching credential (internship, preliminary, or clear) or out of state equivalent required
  • English Learner authorization
  • A strong belief that all students can succeed
  • Demonstrated experience and success working with students in low-income communities (preferred)
