  • JOB SUMMARY
    This position determines type and degree of hearing impairment and implements habilitation and rehabilitation services for students.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
    1. Evaluates test results in relation to behavioral, social, educational, and medical information obtained from physicians, families, teachers, speech pathologists, and other professionals to determine communication problems related to hearing disability.
    2. Plans and implements prevention, habilitation, or rehabilitation services, including hearing aid orientation, counseling, auditory training, lip reading, speech conversation, and other treatment programs developed in consultation with speech pathologist and other professionals.
    3. Refers students to physician specialist if medical treatment is determined necessary.
    4. Evaluates the effects of treatment at various stages and adjusts treatments to achieve maximum benefit.
    5. Maintains records for all assigned students; records treatment, response, and progress on a daily basis; maintains other records as required by the District, state or federal law; maintains confidentiality.
    6. Confers with physicians and other practitioners to obtain additional patient information; suggest revisions in treatment program; integrates treatment program with other aspects of student’s rehabilitation program; works as a team with the student, family, teachers, special education staff, and other health care practitioners to help the student achieve acquired goals; instructs students and families in treatment procedures to be continued at home.
    7. Requisitions, repairs, and replaces audiology supplies and equipment.
    8. Provides direction to assigned paraeducators.
    9. Serves as a resource for audiology matters; serves on committees (including IEP teams); serves as a consultant to classroom teachers; participates in meetings as assigned.
    10. Conduct Evaluations for Special Education students and write IEP goals as pertinent to student need.
    11. Participates in the development of objectives, standards and procedures in the District audiology program and in planning, implementing, and evaluation audiology services to be provided in each school.
    12. Maintains professional competence through continuing education activities; maintains audiologist license/certification/registration; keeps appraised of current legislation pertaining to audiology practice; maintains membership in professional organizations.
    13. Performs related duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFACTIONS and DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS
    Required Education and Experience
    Bachelor’s degree in Audiology from an accredited college or university.

    Required Certifications and Licenses
    • Must maintain all licenses and certifications as a condition of continued employment i.e.
    • ESA certification with SLP endorsement.
    • Valid Washington State Driver’s License and access to personal transportation.

    Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Knowledge of state and federal laws concerning the provision of health care in public schools.
    • Knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding students in special education.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Ability to obtain, clarify and exchange information.
    • Ability to plan and organize work and set priorities.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with students with special needs.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multi-cultural, diverse socio-economic setting.
