Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least one year of work or volunteer experience with children or youth under age 21.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, patience, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students with a variety of educational and behavioral needs.
  • Iowa Paraeducator Certificate, Substitute Authorization, or Teaching License encouraged to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Support students individually and in group settings with academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
  • Assist teachers with instruction, classroom activities, and adapting learning materials.
  • Supervise and support students in classrooms and other areas throughout the Academy.
  • Assist with behavior management, crisis intervention, and student safety.
  • Escort and support students during educational, recreational, work, and daily activities.
  • Assist with classroom preparation, documentation, and other educational duties.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, teachers, and other team members.
  • Maintain student confidentiality and follow all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Participate in staff development and other activities supporting Woodward Academy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

This position assists with instruction, classroom activities, student supervision, behavior support, and maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
